Energetic, emotional, fearless - unforgettable! Japanese pianist Aki Takase has helped shape both American and European jazz for many decades and has delighted both critics and audiences with her originality and colorful, free-thinking playing. Now she explores the piano trio format together with Australian bassist Mike Majkowski on double bass and Norwegian drummer Dag Magnus Narvesen - in an intuitive interplay that truly sparkles! We had a visit from Aki Takase two years ago, quite simply one of the most unforgettable evenings that year. Together with Daniel Erdmann, the duo made distinctive reinterpretations of Duke Ellington's music on piano and saxophone, a vibrant, electric evening full of energy and subtle humor. We can expect more of that here: Narvesen knows Takase well from her quintet Japanic, which she put together in 2018 and which also released two critically acclaimed records. We have also enjoyed him in DAMANA and his many collaborations with Alex von Schlippenbach. Majkowski has been active in a wide range of contemporary, improvised and experimental music since the early 2000s. He has developed a highly innovative playing style and has expanded and refined the technical possibilities of the double bass. He has contributed to over 40 albums in addition to 15 solo albums. Since 1978, Takase has performed and recorded with the biggest names in innovative jazz: Lester Bowie, Joe Henderson, Miroslav Vitous, John Zorn and others. In the 80s, Europe became her main focus with concerts with Schlippenbach, Maria João, David Murray, N.H.Ø. Pedersen... the list is long! Her playing style is both energetic and sensitive, explosive and creative, and together with a solid and fearless rhythm section duo, an exceptional musical experience awaits. Aki Takase - piano, Mike Majkowski - bass, Dag Magnus Narvesen - drums.
