Exploring the outer reaches of improvisation Marc Ribot recounts: "Last year, Ches Smith called and said- "you should check out this gig I'm doing tonight with bass player Farida Amadou.". I said "ok". They were playing in a tiny cafe in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn. It was the most intense, exciting music I've heard in decades. Afterwards, I said to Farida and Ches: "let's jam". They said "yes". And here we are.". It is with great pleasure that we bring this fabulous trio to the stage in November. Farida Amadou is a self-taught bassist and sound artist based in Brussels. She is known for her raw and intuitive approach to improvisation, and has become a driving force within experimental music. In addition to her own projects, she collaborates with artists such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann and Moor Mother. By blending free jazz, noise and deep, rhythmic structures, Amadou creates an all-consuming soundscape that balances intensity with translucence. Her solo albums, including the critically acclaimed When It Rains It Pours from 2024, are documents of her unique ability to shape spontaneous sound worlds with power, precision and great emotional depth. Marc Ribot is a favorite here at the house, a distinctive guitarist and vocalist who turns jazz, americana and Latin rhythms into a punk party! Ches Smith, described by The New York Times as "one of the drummers with the most clever tricks on the experimental scene", has collaborated with Ribot since 2005 in the post-rock-anxiety-punk band Ceramic Dog, with five studio albums over two decades. Together this new trio explores the outermost reaches their diverse improvisational backgrounds can take them.
