Warm, vibrant Scandinavian jazz with open spaces
Atle Nymo often visits us, but it's about time we get to hear him with his own music! This fantastic trio conveys Nymo's playful compositions in a stripped-down, open landscape - with room for melody and interplay.
The prominent saxophonist and clarinetist is a sought-after musician, playing a central role in Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Ensemble Denada (now Oslo Jazz Ensemble), and with Torun Eriksen and Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen. We have also greatly enjoyed his bands I.P.A., Motif and Chrome Hill here at Victoria - distinctive Scandinavian jazz unafraid of unconventional approaches.
In fact, Atle Nymo Trio is just as much the other musicians' band. In telepathic interplay, Mats Eilertsen's rich bass playing surges alongside Michaela Antalová's nuanced and creative drumming, a vibrant and colorful rhythm section that challenges and lifts Nymo's lyrical saxophone and clarinet lines.
The band has released two critically acclaimed albums, and the music this evening will be a fine mix of material from these, in addition to new material to be recorded after the tour.
