Few professions have changed more in recent times than farming. In a daily life shaped by technology, demands and efficiency, farmers are torn between society's need for food and the pressure of efficiency, as well as the desire to preserve traditions, values and down-to-earth ways of working. While we sit at McDonald's at four in the morning eating burgers and fries, the alarm clock rings for the farmer who has grown the potatoes we enjoy. The Norwegian farmer is a bearer of our cultural heritage, and ensures that we stay fed. But how is the farmer really doing? Is he or she a lonely figure with a bent back and a longing for community, or is farm life a source of freedom, meaning and pride? Through conversations and interviews with farmers from across the country, BØNDER (FARMERS) offers a heartwarming and intimate, but also raw and honest insight into farm life today. The performance meets the people behind the farming, uncovers secrets hidden behind barn walls and farmyards, and lets both joy and loneliness come to light. With BØNDER we want to document the complexity of farm life and highlight a part of our culture that rarely gets a place on stage.
