Tonight’s main work is performed by six outstanding musicians from our Musician Collective. Sara Övinge, Cam Kjøll, Marthe Husum, Hanne Skjelbred, Audun Sandvik, and Ole Eirik Ree have recently returned from touring a sextet program in both Italy and South Korea. Now, we get to experience a finely polished performance delivered with energy, confidence, and a touch of humor – with Brahms as the centerpiece. Written in 1860, while the 27-year-old Brahms was still searching for his place among the greats, the work blends classical structure with romantic depth. With two violas and two cellos, the music takes on a rich, dark glow: from the sunlit opening, through a deeply moving set of variations and a playful scherzo, to a final rondo full of elegance and charm. The sextet will also present excerpts from their touring repertoire, thoughtfully framing Brahms’ beautiful sextet.
