When Buika visited Cosmopolite's 30th anniversary in 2022, she played to a sold-out hall. Now the Spanish-Equatorial Guinean singer returns – with new music and an expression that still moves freely between flamenco, jazz, soul, funk and African rhythms. Buika grew up in Mallorca as the child of political refugees from Equatorial Guinea. In the neighborhood's Roma community she encountered flamenco, while home and surroundings opened the door to African music, jazz, pop and copla. These encounters have shaped a career where genre boundaries rarely stay untouched. With her dark, raspy voice as a starting point, Buika breathes new life into both her own songs and music from the Spanish-language tradition. She sings about love, freedom, loss and resistance, and lets improvisation be a central part of her concerts. Throughout her career she has collaborated with the likes of Carlos Santana, Chucho Valdés, Pat Metheny, Anoushka Shankar, Seal and Nelly Furtado. The album 'El Último Trago', recorded together with Chucho Valdés, received a Latin Grammy, and Buika has also been awarded Spain's gold medal for merit in the arts. In the summer of 2026 she released 'Bailando', the first single from an upcoming album. The song points further toward a new chapter in a catalogue ranging from 'Mi Niña Lola' and 'No Habrá Nadie en el Mundo' to the collaboration with Santana on 'Africa Speaks'.
