Emma Rawicz - Inkyra

Electric and electrifying music from British shooting star sax player. Saxophonist Emma Rawicz has taken the British jazz scene by storm in a short time. She released an album on the quality label ACT already as a 21-year-old and has had extensive European tours and several prestigious engagements since. Rawicz has a round, airy tone on the saxophone, but is also no stranger to painting large and dense soundscapes where electric bass and guitar at times pull the music towards a jazz-rock expression. The combination of saxophone and keyboards can lead thoughts in different directions, for example towards Americans like Donny McCaslin or some of Chris Potter's electric bands, but also to Norwegian jazz, especially from a few decades back. On the album Inkyra from 2025 we also get some sparkling Henriette Eilertsen-like flute runs that sound very fitting right now. The associations to our home scene are perhaps not entirely coincidental. She has collaborated with several Norwegian musicians. Among other things, she played with Magne Thormodsæter Quartet at Nattjazz last year, and the same year she was heard at Jazzfest in a newly assembled quartet with acquaintances like Kertu Aer and Espen Berg. The Brits are reliable suppliers of fresh jazz musicians who go their own way. Emma Rawicz is no exception.
