Enemy (Downes/Eldh/Maddren)

Berlin and London based piano trio at the top of their game. Berlin- and London-based Enemy has been going for over a decade, and during that time released four albums, toured across Europe and delivered elegant twists and top-quality jazz. When you're a piano trio, the field can sometimes feel quite crowded, both historically and now. So it's about carving out your own space and refining your own style. Enemy is full of cryptic rhythms, off-kilter beats and sparkling interplay. Melodic and song-based, yet at the same time free and open. Not least three superb musicians who constantly push each other to the outer limits. Kit Downes is one of the most interesting pianists from the UK and should be well known to many through Norwegian projects such as Time is a blind guide and Nicolas Leirtrø's Action Now, as well as, naturally, his own trio, where James Maddren also plays. Bassist Petter Eldh is about as at home at Victoria as you can be without moving in. We don't have room to list all the bands and projects he's part of, so we'll settle for mentioning audience favourites like Acoustic Unity, Koma Saxo and Y-Otis. It's been almost seven years since Enemy last played Victoria. That time they shared the stage with Mette Rasmussen. This time they take all the space for themselves.
