Etuk Ubong is one of Nigeria’s most exciting musical voices today, described by Seun Kuti as “one of the best things to come out of Lagos.” As a trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, he has developed his own distinct expression, which he calls Earth Music. His music is a powerful blend of afrobeat, highlife, and jazz, interwoven with the ritual Ekombi drum tradition. The sound is both energetic and deeply spiritual. While there are echoes of the UK jazz scene and bands like Sons of Kemet, Etuk Ubong’s music is unmistakably Nigerian - rooted in tradition and firmly focused on the future. Based in Lagos, Ubong is today a central figure in the city’s music scene and continues to reach a growing international audience.
