The Holberg Suite is our national romantic musical icon, on par with Tiedemann and Gude’s famous painting from Hardanger. The five dance movements – with roots in a completely different time and place – appear, quite remarkably, just as folkloristically Norwegian to us as the bunad. Grieg is the light and the day, while Shostakovich is the night which, at its darkest – like the summer night – opens again towards the light when we thought all would be dark. The same is true this evening: our version of the work, performed entirely from memory, captures that magical moment in the summer night when everything turns. The concert takes place at Kulturkirken Jakob, Hausmanns gate 14.
