Jazz, opera, and contemporary music – a Christmas concert like no other! Håkon Kornstad trio also plays a concert at 21.00.
The Christmas concerts of the Håkon Kornstad trio have become a tradition that many simply must attend. The trio performs lieder, opera and Neapolitan songs, but "decorates the repertoire for Christmas", as they say themselves. After two years at Frogner cinema and a year at Gimle, we are delighted to present this concert at Victoria.
Håkon has a musical versatility that is not only unique in Norway, but unique worldwide: From being one of our foremost jazz saxophonists, he made a career leap in 2009 when he discovered he had a voice – an opera voice! And we're not talking about a voice that only shines in the shower or at weddings – Kornstad's tenor was refined through a master's degree at the Opera Academy and practice at the Norwegian National Opera, and he sings breathtaking arias just as easily as sweet Neapolitan songs, and has certainly not put the saxophone aside. Over the past five years he has found his very distinctive and popular combination!
In 2011 he sang "O helga natt" for the first time publicly at the Organ Club at Cosmopolite, and it became a great Christmas experience for many. Since then he has guested at Source of Christmas, KORK, Bugge Wesseltoft's Christmas concerts and a number of other pre-Christmas traditions with his interpretation of Jussi Björling's Christmas hit. This year you can of course enjoy it with us!
The Håkon Kornstad Trio consists, besides the double tenor, of two of our very finest musicians. Frode Haltli is an omnipresent accordionist with a classical background. And Mats Eilertsen plays bass. The versatility and musicality of this trio has received acclaim in Norwegian and international press.
We promise you an unforgettable evening with beautiful music, and that not everything will be Christmas music. At least not as you know it!
