The Brazilian bassist and composer Michael Pipoquinha is considered one of the most exciting artists of his generation. Victor Wooten has said he “takes the bass to a new level,” and in 2025 he releases his most ambitious project yet: an album of original songs where he also steps forward as a vocalist and producer. From his hometown of Limoeiro do Norte, Pipoquinha has gone from performing at age 11 to collaborating with artists like Djavan, Gilberto Gil, and Ivan Lins, as well as performing on major international stages. His music blends technical mastery with a strong personal expression. His new album A Minha Pele marks a turning point, featuring contributions from artists such as John Patitucci and Richard Bona. Here, he explores identity and belonging through what he calls “Afro groove” - a fusion of African influences and Brazilian tradition. On April 17, he comes to Cosmopolite Scene with a new and personal sound - a rare opportunity to experience an artist in the midst of a creative evolution.
