The Swiss pianist and composer Nik Bärtsch returns with his long running quartet Ronin for an evening of ritual grooves, hypnotic rhythms, and meditative intensity. For Nik Bärtsch, performing live is both an explosive and deeply focused form of collaboration. That idea takes on a whole new dimension when the music itself is built around zen funk and what the band calls “ritual groove music” - repetitive, precise, and completely absorbing. The quartet presents music from SPIN, their ninth album and the first featuring new bassist Jeremias Keller. Ronin is known for its hypnotic rhythmic language, blending elements of funk, contemporary classical music, and Japanese ritual soundscapes into something entirely their own. With SPIN, the band looks both forward and backward. Their signature tight, rhythmic, and meditative sound remains at the core, but now carries a renewed sense of freedom, lightness, and exploration within the music’s carefully crafted structures. Expect intricate details, subtle shifts, and immersive textures drawing as much from indie, post rock, and ambient pop as from jazz. This is jazz that moves differently - music that invites you to listen closely, move gently, and eventually lose yourself in the groove.
