The Brief

A Danish family enjoys sun-drenched days in a holiday paradise, but alongside their idyllic getaway, a very different reality unfolds. Boat refugees arrive on the island in search of a better life. When the family accidentally hits a stranger with their car, their moral compass is put to the test. Good intentions lead to unforeseen consequences, and they are faced with difficult dilemmas. Paradis won the award for Best Nordic Film at the Gothenburg Film Festival: “With pitch-perfect performances, a razor-sharp yet nuanced script, and not a trace of sentimentality, the film is a mirror in which we see ourselves with devastating clarity.” Director Maria Sødahl’s previous film Hope (starring Stellan Skarsgård and Andrea Bræin Hovig) received critical acclaim, was sold to more than 30 countries, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award.
