Red Kite

Still loud and heavy, now shifting more towards Coltrane and Sanders Red Kite has long since convinced us that slow, heavy rock and jazz together is a very good idea! The band has been rumbling since 2013, and this summer a new record arrives, This Too Shall Pass. The title is perhaps a tribute to a necessary change in the ranks: Keyboardist Bernt Moen has had to take a break due to health challenges. Joining as a full member is now saxophone legend Gisle Johansen. Gisle has guested with Red Kite several times and was already part of the family. On the record, the band has additionally included Ståle Storløkken as a guest. The music is more of the same - loud, heavy jazz inspired by rock, but the palette has also been expanded with more calm passages, with themes inspired by both folk music and personal tragedies. With Gisle Johansen's distinctive playing on the team, the focus is turned more towards the jazz heritage that lives in the band, here are echoes of Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders at their rawest. It's darker, deeper and more jazzy. The evening's quartet meets you on the corner where heavy, psychedelic riffs sit loose and smoking rumble-jazz shakes and delights. A wonderful evening awaits!
