Impressing improvisation in the funniest way
Stian Carstensen has been an enormous driving force in Norwegian music life for more than 30 years! He first became known as the frontman of the band Farmers Market, which shook the country with unheard-of, Balkan-inspired music. The tempo has been just as high with Ola Kvernberg and Gammalgrass, but it can also be calm and beautiful as with Music for a While and his collaboration with vocalist Elias Akselsen. He impressed greatly with the critically acclaimed double album Musical Sanatorium in 2021, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Prize the same year.
This evening he comes to us alone, but as the multi-instrumentalist he is, his luggage consists of accordion, guitar, banjo, pedal steel guitar, Bulgarian flute and bagpipe, in addition to a bag of good stories from a life lived.
Stian offers a diverse repertoire. Whether it be hillbilly, baroque, jazz, classical, Balkan music and self-written songs in the Eidsvoll dialect with more or less bizarre themes such as lung mash and magic mushrooms and current affairs. Stian also happily takes suggestions from the audience, and is especially keen on using European art music as a base for improvisation.
A legendary evening awaits!
