Description
The Viking Age is an important part of our Scandinavian cultural heritage and is also closely connected to natural history. Join us for a Viking evening in the Botanical Garden and gain an insight into Viking life and how they made use of the natural resources around them.
Which plants did the Vikings use for food and medicine? How did they dye their clothes, and what role did animals, stone and metals play in everyday life?
During the Viking evening, you can experience an atmospheric Viking garden with a campfire, demonstrations and guides dressed in Viking-inspired clothing.
Among other things, you can learn more about:
- Plant dyeing with the Oseberg Textile Group
- Medicinal plants
- What the Vikings ate
- Grinding grain using a millstone
- The Vikings’ use of hides, leather and metals
Get close to everyday life in the Viking Age and discover how people made use of the resources they found in the natural world around them.
