13-year-old Rikke is in seventh grade. She is no longer a child and not quite a teenager. She has, and takes, a natural place in the class, but this position is threatened when a new girl appears. She gets Rikke's desk in the classroom, which Rikke experiences as a dethronement. But Rikke has no intention of being outmaneuvered by Bea, and an unhealthy competition develops between the two girls. This culminates in an endurance test that has dramatic consequences. It also turns out that Bea has secrets and Rikke cannot in the long run handle the challenges she faces. She must take action, but it comes at a cost. Never Again 13! portrays the difficult transition between childhood and adolescence, with pressure to conform, the need to belong and to test boundaries. The film does it with humor and warmth, and with respect for, and love for, the worst conceivable state: being a teenager. A refreshing Norwegian 90s comedy about adolescence.
