Description
One of the international jazz scene's most exciting stars comes to Oslo when the award-winning trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III takes the stage at Herr Nilsen on Monday 14 September.
In just a few years, Benack has established himself as one of the most sought-after names in modern jazz. With a unique combination of virtuosic trumpet playing, silky-smooth vocals and a stage presence that brings to mind Frank Sinatra and the great entertainers from the golden age of jazz, he delivers concerts that both delight jazz connoisseurs and win over new audiences.
As a regular guest at legendary New York clubs such as Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club and Dizzy's Club, Benny Benack III has built an international reputation as a world-class artist. In 2024 he topped the DownBeat Magazine Poll as "#1 Rising Star Vocalist" and was simultaneously named one of the world's foremost young trumpeters.
His musical expression draws inspiration from jazz giants such as Kenny Dorham and Freddie Hubbard, while adding his own modern energy and charismatic style. The result is a concert experience filled with swing, virtuosity, humour and musicality at the very highest level.
For this exclusive concert, Benack brings along the acclaimed German pianist Jerry Lu, known from WDR Big Band and HR Big Band among others. The rhythm section consists of two strong names from the Norwegian jazz scene – bassist Eskild Okkenhaug and drummer Frederik Villmow.
This will be a rare opportunity to experience one of jazz's most talked-about new stars up close in the intimate surroundings of Herr Nilsen.
