Rookie Riot is one of Sweden's most exciting bluegrass bands right now – an explosive combination of tradition, youthful energy and a distinct musical expression. Up front is vocalist Wilma, with a personal voice and a natural stage presence. With Esther Duerink's virtuosic bluegrass fiddle, Daniel Svensson's traditional banjo playing and an experienced rhythm section with Daniel Alsander on bass and Anders Ternesten on mandolin, Rookie Riot has a sound that is both solidly rooted in the American bluegrass tradition and at the same time feels fresh, modern and innovative . The band has also traveled to the USA for inspiration – and did so well that they ended up on the podium in the prestigious band competition in Galax, competing against as many as 127 American bands Now Rookie Riot is in the studio recording their first album. This marks the next step in the band's development, and the result is a fresh and personal interpretation of bluegrass – looking forward, without losing touch with its roots.
