The Brief

Welcome to Doomed Queens - a dramatic and musical concert performance in Akershus Castle Church. Opera singer and mezzo-soprano Hege Høisæter, together with pianist John Lidal, invite the audience into the fates of some of history’s and literature’s most fascinating and condemned women. Cleopatra, Herodias, and Lady Macbeth are among the queens brought to life through arias, scenes, and opera excerpts for mezzo-soprano and piano. Each queen is introduced with a brief spoken narrative before being given a powerful vocal and dramatic expression, drawn from a defining moment in her life. The music is selected from both well-known and lesser-known operatic repertoire, performed with intensity, presence, and musical depth.
