The Brief

Be careful what you wish for this Christmas! Heidi Ruud Ellingsen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Nader Khademi, and Cato Skimten Storengen ring in the holidays with a truly delightful Christmas nightmare. The dream of a white Christmas. It certainly sounds romantic and heartwarming. But don’t be fooled. And whatever you do, don’t bring the kids to this one. It’s the night before Christmas Eve, and an old mother waits for her two grown sons and their families. Will everyone show up this year? No. Of course not everyone will. But eventually, the sons arrive. They find it exhausting dealing with the old woman - paralyzed and blind as she is. Wouldn’t it be better for everyone if she just… well, you know. And just as that thought crosses their minds, there’s a knock at the door. A case of vintage wine appears on the table. A large knife finds its victim. Lies and truths are about to be revealed. Mother’s past will come to light. And we’ll sing the old songs once again. There will be fireworks and festivity, laughter and tears, pinnekjøtt and Christmas trees - and plenty of holiday spirit - when Statsteatret rings in Christmas together with Riksteatret and Nationaltheatret. In recent years, Statsteatret has achieved great success across Norway with its critically acclaimed productions, known for combining humor and gentle madness to deliver thought-provoking themes. They are particularly recognized for their unique retelling of 1000 years of Norwegian history through ten plays over ten years. In 2022, they received the Hedda Award for “Outstanding Artistic Contribution.” We repeat: Whatever you do, don’t bring the kids. Written by Yngve Sundvor. Language: Norwegian
