The Brief

A playful, noir-infused crime story. When Claude Massoulier is shot and killed during a hunting trip, real estate agent Julien Vercel quickly becomes the prime suspect - both because he was present at the scene and because his fingerprints are found on the victim’s car. When Vercel’s wife is also murdered, he goes into hiding. Convinced of his innocence, his secretary takes it upon herself to investigate the case more closely. Confidentially Yours would turn out to be François Truffaut’s final film. Based on an American pulp novel, it is more than just a crime mystery; it’s also an entertaining romantic comedy, stylistically infused with the spirit of 1940s Hollywood. Packed with film references, it closely echoes the work of Truffaut’s cinematic hero Alfred Hitchcock - both in its plot and in the way it builds suspense right up to the final moment.
