The Brief

Cuckoo is a humorous and optimistic film – despite being set during wartime. A Finnish soldier is chained to a rock and struggles to free himself. When his attempt to shoot the chain fails, he removes his glasses – which he only acquired to appear more intellectual – and dismantles them instead. Nearby, a wounded Russian deserter lies by the roadside. He is discovered by a solitary yet resourceful Sámi woman, who has not seen her husband for years. When the Finnish soldier finally breaks free, he makes his way to the woman’s home, where she is caring for the Russian. This marks the beginning of an unusual and unexpected cohabitation.
