Grey Gardens follows Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith 'Little Edie' Beale, who live together in the family home in East Hampton, New York. The film consists of conversations between mother and daughter about family, past relationships, ambitions, daily life and the years they have spent in the house. The documentary was filmed over several months and provides a portrait of two women with a close, complicated and often conflicted relationship. Throughout the documentary, Little Edie continually returns to questions about clothes and persona. Her outfits are explained and adjusted along the way, and objects from the house often find their way into how she dresses. Conversations about clothes naturally flow into reflections on age, beauty, family and the life she lives in Grey Gardens. The Maysles classic about two eccentric upper-class women. The film is accompanied by an introduction by screenwriter Nora Landsrød.
