Gunnar Halle Trio

Three of the Nordic region's most experienced improvisation musicians meet in an intimate trio format when Gunnar Halle Trio visits Herr Nilsen. With Gunnar Halle on trumpet, Thommy Andersson on bass and Martin Andersen on drums, the audience is invited into a musical landscape where strong melodies, spontaneous improvisation and close communication are at the center. The music draws inspiration from Scandinavian folk music and hymn tradition, but is also colored by West African rhythms, modern jazz and contemporary music. The result is a warm, open and expressive soundscape that both challenges and delights. The three musicians have played together for over 25 years through the legendary Danish ensemble Pierre Dørge's New Jungle Orchestra. Together they have toured all continents and developed a unique interplay that gives them a rare freedom on stage. Now they explore new musical paths in a smaller format, where every note and every improvisation is given room to develop. The trio's debut album På hytta, released in 2026, has been praised for its organic expression and strong melodic focus. Gunnar Halle is one of Norway's most renowned trumpeters and has appeared on over 120 albums. Throughout his career he has collaborated with Mari Boine, Eivind Aarset, Espen Eriksen, Kirsti Huke, Dawda Jobarteh and a number of leading jazz musicians in Scandinavia. This will be an evening for those who appreciate living interplay, beautiful melodies and jazz with depth, nerve and a sense of adventure.
