24 Variations for Piano is a newly composed work by pianist and composer Håkon Skogstad. The piece consists of 24 movements in 24 different keys, all built around a central theme introduced at the beginning. Inspired by composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Grieg, Liszt, Chopin and Bach, the work blends classical traditions with influences from Argentine tango and Astor Piazzolla, creating a rich and distinctive musical expression. The result is a colorful musical journey that moves between styles and moods while maintaining a clear thread throughout. The work can be seen as a meeting point between Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Chopin’s Preludes and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Håkon Skogstad (b. 1989) is an acclaimed Norwegian pianist and composer educated in Trondheim, Oslo and New York. He completed his artistic doctorate at NTNU in 2022 and has performed internationally across Europe, the US and Argentina. Skogstad has received several awards, including the Paul Okkenhaug Prize and a Spellemann Award for the album Visions of Tango.
