Konsert med Early voices - I tell myself that I'm - Gesualdo/Ødegaard

Welcome to a concert with Early Voices in Forstanderskapssalen at Sentralen! The programme features the world premiere of Martin Ødegaard’s new work Time after Time, alongside madrigals by Carlo Gesualdo and Norwegian folk tunes. Time after Time juxtaposes meditations on early music with contemporary interpretations of works including Folkestadvisa and Kyrierop fra Østerdalen. The piece builds bridges across time, musical traditions and texts, taking the audience on a musical journey through the ages. I tell myself that I’m draws on the questioning and searching nature of Gesualdo’s music. Who writes the music, and who performs it? And who are we, really, within the music? Time after Time reflects on the passage of time, on how events repeat themselves and change throughout history, and on how the people living through it are constantly searching for themselves and for one another – themes that Gesualdo also explores in his madrigals. Early Voices is a professional early music quintet based in Oslo. The ensemble performs European Baroque and Renaissance repertoire with a distinctly Nordic sound, uniquely combined with Norwegian and Scandinavian folk music. The five members of Early Voices are experienced soloists and ensemble singers with backgrounds in ensembles including the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, Cappella Amsterdam, Trondheim Vokalensemble, Vocal Art, Kilden Vokalensemble and Det Norske Damekor. The singers are Mari Johanne Müller, Kristine Våge, Maria Dale Johannessen, Øystein Stensheim and Peder Arnt Kløvrud. Since its founding in 2019, Early Voices has performed a number of highly acclaimed concerts and tours. Highlights include an album release tour in Croatia in 2024 and an extensive project dedicated to the music of Carlo Gesualdo in 2023–2024. In recent years, the ensemble has also enjoyed several successful collaborations with other musicians and actors and has established an ongoing collaboration with the Baroque orchestra Oslo Circles.
