The sea monster Luca has an unforgettable experience when he tries out life above the water. Luca is a charming coming-of-age story about being different, about breaking free and about dreaming of new experiences. The story takes place in a 1950s-style Italian fishing village, which may remind you of the popular little coastal town Cinque Terre. Here you can also find references to The Little Mermaid and to Hayao Miyazaki. In the sea off the Italian Riviera lives the boy Luca Paguro, and he is a sea monster. He dreams of experiencing the world above the water, but his parents warn against going up to the surface. Together with his new friend Alberto, Luca sets off. When sea monsters are on land, they transform into humans. But only as long as they stay dry … The boys have a great wish to earn enough money to buy a Vespa scooter. They therefore sign up for a triathlon together with the local village girl Giulia, hoping to win the prize money.
