An inner storm is brewing. Based on Kjell Askildsen's novel Omgivelser, Oddvar Bull Tuhus takes us to the southern coast of Norway where the lighthouse keeper Ewert Manngård lives with his wife and daughter. Long ago he was a sailor. But now everyday life offers mostly routines and few surprises. On a whim, he rents out a cabin on the island to a writer. The stranger's arrival upsets the old balance between the three residents, and latent conflicts flare up. The film music is by Jan Garbarek, and director Pål Løkkeberg makes a rare appearance as an actor in the role of the writer.
