At the end of the 1940s, sympathetic Clément Mathieu, a failed musician, gets a teaching job at a children's and youth institution. The headmaster there believes that merciless discipline and punishment are the only things that can save the students from perdition. Horrified, Mathieu uses other methods. He decides to create a boys' choir and calls for an audition. The Chorus is an adapted version of the film La Cage aux rossignols, which director Christophe Barratier loved as a child. The music, like the film, became very popular in France and topped the charts for many weeks.
