The astonishing Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken has a persistent and varied body of work, accomplished through pure willpower, unbeatable energy and unstoppable drive, without significant budgets. But with clever management of his talent as director, screenwriter and producer, he has secured both position and prizes at festivals around the world. Most original in his oeuvre is an ambitious biographical fantasy where four different actors portray Edvard Munch in different phases of a busy life: 21, 30, 45 and 80 years old. Dahlsbakken's Munch had to work all the time. Intensely focused and decidedly isolated. He pushed away everything else to express and process his feelings about illness, grief and death, as well as contemporary conventions and artistic views. Not to succumb to alcoholism and mental struggles. The segments are both contrasts to and reflections of each other. Dahlsbakken essentially hangs up Munch's life and paintings for an exhibition with unexpected entrances. Often freely fantasizing, but constantly searching through the artist's mind and explosive creative power. Dahlsbakken uses both untried actors and known performers such as Anders Baasmo, Jesper Christensen and not least Anne Krigsvoll, brilliantly disguised as the aging Munch. Meet Dahlsbakken, a domestic talent without equal. And his Munch paintings. You haven't seen the likes of it, at least not in Norwegian film. Visit by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken in the salon.
