Negative Nils

The Brief

This is a warm and humorous performance about feeling like an outsider, and about overcoming your own fears in order to show up for others. Nils is a worried little fellow who is terrified of high speeds, gluten, and bacteria. He is also an expert at thinking negatively and always imagines the worst possible outcome. When the bubbly and carefree classmate Janne Marianne invites the entire class to her birthday party, Nils is the only one who shows up. Nils’s anxiety, insecurity, and many allergies keep getting in the way of the fun, and the birthday celebration turns out quite differently from what Janne Marianne had imagined. Even though negative Nils and positive Janne Marianne are so different, they might have more in common than they think - and perhaps they can learn something from each other’s differences. And maybe Nils isn’t quite as allergic to dust and gluten as he believes.
