The Brief

This is Bille August's film adaptation of Martin Andersen Nexø's partially autobiographical breakthrough novel. It depicts the lives and humiliation of poor Swedish emigrants on the Danish island of Bornholm with great insight. This is due not least to Max von Sydow's interpretation of the role as the single father. The film also shows the fine moments he has with his son Pelle. Pelle the Conqueror won the Palme d'Or in Cannes and received the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. The film is shown in collaboration with the Nordic Association on the occasion of Nordic Day.
