Project MD at Herr Nilsen on Tuesday 28 July 2026: Miles Davis 100 Years. On 26 May Miles Davis would have turned 100. He was at the forefront of jazz from bebop to rap. But in the period 1968 to 1975 he was at the height of his musical creativity. At least that is the view of Project MD, the band that plays its versions of Miles' soundscapes from the era when he expanded the acoustic quintet format with electric instruments and percussion in the African and Asian world music tradition. A lone American reviewer (Dean Monti) of the project's CD «Live at the Organ Club» (2016) on Amazon highlights the band as «best Miles electric tribute since Yo Miles». Arild Rønsen in Puls wrote «You won't get closer to Bitches Brew». The centenary is celebrated with three leading Norwegian jazz musicians as main soloists. It will be a unique opportunity to hear timely versions of Miles' Afrocentric, Euro-modernist and jazz-punk jungle grooves in the Norwegian summer night.
