Store Norske Seeger Sessions Band has in recent years refined the repertoire that Bruce Springsteen has made known through his 'We shall overcome' and 'Live in Dublin' albums. We are talking about American folk songs from the tough 1930s onwards, performed with fiddle, banjo, accordion, brass instruments and electric guitar. This music tells stories of old cowboys, miners, gamblers, railroad workers and other fine folks. The songs are about the cowardly Robert Ford who shot Jesse James in the back, the farm in Oklahoma that blew away, and Old Dan Tucker who got drunk and fell into the fire. In the best gospel and church tradition, the story of Jacob's Ladder and the Virgin Mary mourning is told. This is traditional music with stories that have been passed down through the centuries.
