Victor Sjöström’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Terje Vigen is a cornerstone of Swedish silent cinema, presented here with live music. The film tells the poignant story of a poor fisherman who rows to Denmark to save his family from starvation, only to be captured and return home too late. Shot in the Swedish archipelago, the film features Sjöström himself in the lead role, performing many of his own stunts. Its naturalistic style and subtle acting set it apart from other silent films of the time. Presented in collaboration with IbsenForum.
