Description
Suspense and wonderful humor in this highlight of the Coen brothers' filmography.
Jeff Lebowski – "The Dude" among friends – is arguably Los Angeles' most laid-back person. While the Gulf War rages on the other side of the world, The Dude still lives happily as if it were the seventies, drinking White Russians and bowling daily with his buddies Walter and Donny. But his easygoing lifestyle comes to an abrupt end one day when he is mistaken for a local millionaire. Thugs have come to collect a debt supposedly incurred by his "wife" Bunny. Meanwhile, Bunny is kidnapped, and the real Mr. Lebowski asks The Dude to serve as a courier. At the handover, most things go wrong, and The Dude is drawn into a web of conflicting interests, gangsters, the police, a handful of German nihilists and more …
The Big Lebowski is yet another entry in the Coen brothers' quirky series of genre experiments, and something as rare as a particularly successful splicing of the laid-back comedy and atmospheric film noir.
