The Brief

The Turin Horse was Béla Tarr’s final film – a dark and uncompromising farewell to his career. As the light literally fades at the end, it feels like the end of the kind of cinema he represented as well. Inspired by an episode from Friedrich Nietzsche’s life, the film follows a father and daughter living a quiet, monotonous life in the countryside. Very little happens, yet everything lies in the mood, the imagery, and the rhythm. Slow, bleak, and hypnotic – a powerful experience for those willing to surrender to it.
