The first film set inside a video game. Creative genius Kevin Flynn developed a series of games while working at ENCOM, but his code was stolen by his corrupt colleague Ed Dillinger, who then took control of the company. After repeatedly trying to hack into ENCOM’s system to reclaim his work, Flynn is accidentally digitized and trapped inside it. There, he teams up with the security program Tron to battle the powerful Master Control Program, which has sinister plans. Inspired by the game Pong, animator Steven Lisberger created TRON, a groundbreaking film that pushed the boundaries of computer graphics and special effects, particularly with its innovative backlit animation. The film also sparked several video game releases and has since gained a strong cult following, including fans like Daft Punk and Pixar’s John Lasseter, who has said Pixar might not exist without TRON. The score was composed by Wendy Carlos, known for her work in electronic music and for soundtracks like A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. Daft Punk later composed the music for the sequel, Tron: Legacy.
