In 1985, Jakob Church was decommissioned as a parish church, but to this day it remains a consecrated church space. In 1986, Kirkelig Kulturverksted began its work to establish a venue for music, theatre, and visual arts in Jakob Church, and Kulturkirken Jakob opened its doors in 2000 following an extensive renovation. Today, the church stands as a truly unique venue in Oslo and as Norway’s only dedicated cultural church. It hosts theatre performances, art exhibitions, concerts, and private events.
